Happy Halloween

 Okay, some of you may have saw my rant on facebook about the history of Halloween. The only reason why I posted that is because I am sick of people getting mad at the fact that Halloween is celebrated in America. I have also had people get mad at me because they found out I am christian and that I celebrate Halloween. "You know it's a pagan holiday right?" they would ask. To them I say Yes but do you know that just because it's pagan doesn't mean that the pagans didn't believe in a deity or higher being who was pure. Anyway Halloween has become so "Americanized" that the only thing it really means anymore is that it gives us licence to dress up in a costume and get free candy. Okay I am getting off topic here. The point is that just like Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah. Halloweens roots come from a very religious group. Ray Bradbury even talks about the origins in his book the Halloween Tree. A great read. Fright Lights

Last night it wasn't raining and it was ok as far as the temperature goes. So we decided to head on over to Fright Lights. We took Avery to the hay bale maze she wasn't sure at first but when I went in with her she got use to it. She even found hay bales that she could just go around in a circle. She loved that. then we found the small stack of pumpkins that they had left and she picked up quite a few of the small pumpkins. Till she got distracted by the hay jump. Her and her daddy played in that hay for awhile. :) She was having so much fun. But it was getting cold so against Avery's will we picked her up and her little pumpkin and loaded her in the car to look at the lights. Once she realized what we were doing though and she loved seeing the lights. She kept saying "whoa" when we would pass by another set of lights. It was really cute.  After we got home we carved Avery's pumpkin and she helped me clean and roast some seeds. By the time it got to her bed time she was more than ready.

 Avery's pumpkin has a glow stick in it because she keeps carrying it all over the place.

Family Home Evening

We were going to go to Fright Lights tonight. But when James got home it was pouring rain. So we decided to keep to tradition of keeping the Monday night before Halloween as our family home evening pumpkin carving night. We had lots of fun. We watched Addams Family and dug in. James wanted to go a creative way and do his own face and I printed out a stencil for my pumpkin. The two pumpkins that Avery has turned out to be gourds. So we couldn't carve them. So after James and I carved our pumpkins I painted Avery's pumpkins. I did a normal pumpkin face on one and the other I did Bubble Puppy from Avery's favorite show Bubble Guppies. :) She LOVES her bubble puppy pumpkin. She points at it all the time and says pum. (her word for pumpkin :p) Here are some pictures from our night.
