After months of searching I think we finally found our dog. Meet Aries the Basset Hound and Labrador mix. Although I will be changing his name. He just does NOT look like an Aries. I found his picture on the Hurricane Animal Shelters Facebook page and thought it wouldn't hurt to meet him. So I called the shelter and scheduled an appointment for today to meet him. To be honest I wasn't very optimistic about the chances of him being our dog...or of us ever finding a dog. Well we got to the shelter and the officer lead us out to the back pen to meet him. He was very quiet and seemed a little timid but Kilian was able to go right up to him and give him a huge hug around the neck and this dog just sat there. So far so good. I called the dog over to me and he came and first sat down by me to let me pet him, then he laid down and rolled over for belly rubs. He is so sweet and gentle. We spent a fair amount of time at the shelter with him trying to decide. I was really struggling because I didn't want another let down. I felt like if that happened that I might give up on the prospect of us having a dog. As I was loving on this dog and weighing the options, I asked Kilian if he was ready to go home. He immediately asked if the dog could come with us and live at our house. that was kinda the deciding vote. Kilian had never acted this way towards the other dogs. He was always more reserved and shy with them and always said that he didnt like/want that dog and that he wanted Koa back. So this was huge that he was wanting to take this dog home. After filling out the paperwork and "Aries" receiving an updated rabies shot we were homeward bound. Mom and Dad are in Texas at my brother Preston's house for Thanksgiving and we have been babysitting their dogs. I was nervous how this dog was going to act with them. But after we got home and carefully introduced all the dogs everyone seemed pretty happy. So far so good. Now we wait for Avery and James and see what they think.
