Yes I said week. :) On Fathers Day we decided to celebrate with the Fathers and to include Avery's birthday too. So we had some cupcakes and gave her one to destroy.
After the cupcake and a bath. We had her open some presents.
Her right eye is all red because she was rubbing it with cake and frosting all over her hand. :) She couldn't quite figure out what all these cool gifts were for. But she really liked playing with them.
Wednesday was her actual birthday (June 19) and James took the day off so that we could take Avery to the Living Planet Aquarium. So we piled into Nona and Grumpy's car (grandma and grandpa Armstrong) and headed to Sandy. Avery loved the aquarium. I am going to tell the story by pictures and text. Just to keep my thoughts straight.
Here's Avery ready to go.
She loved watching the otters play in the water. and when James took her into the "otter hole" he said she kept trying to pet them. :) He said there was one that was lying right up next to the glass.
These were neat. I hope you can see them. They're upside down jelly fish. they lie at the bottom with their tentacles floating up and they catch passing fish.
this was this really neat octopus. We couldn't use flash, so it's kinda dark. We tried to point him out to Avery, but she either couldn't see him or just wasn't interested.
cute sea horses
Avery couldn't reach any of the starfish, stingrays or sharks to pet them. but she just loved playing in the water. she cried pretty hard when we pulled her away from here.
right next to here they have a smaller exhibit with a guy standing behind the counter. he had some starfish and a horseshoe crab that you could pet. Avery wanted to nothing to do with trying to pet them. but she did enjoy flirting with the guy. :p the horseshoe crab was really cool. And the starfish in that exhibit compared to the big one with the rays were a lot softer.
a few more favorites
Avery loved that she could just walk around and look at these smaller aquariums and duck in and out of the little tunnels. there was a tunnel that went all the way through. So i set her down and James got on the other end of the tunnel to see if she would walk through to him. she was a little taller then the tunnel though and she couldn't figure out how to get to him. I tried to help her by showing her to duck under the first low part and then she would be fine. But the way she understood was to crawl through. so she did...kinda. :) she stink bugged through. :p her butt was in the air but she was crawling. I really wish I would have gotten a picture of it.
Stupid flash! I had a lot of pictures that after we got back when I put them on the computer I noticed they didn't turn out.
Avery loved the penguins. this was suppose to be the wide eyed expression that she was watching them with. But she sneezed right as I took this. :)
this little penguin was so cute. It would swoop through the water and then float like this and come over to were we were and look at Avery. And ever time the penguin would shake the water from his head. Avery would laugh and shake her head imitating him. :) It was really cute.
there was also a lot of other animals we saw. Like the big anaconda. frogs, spiders, scorpions, eels, etc. But either I didn't get pictures of them or the pictures I took didn't come out. :(
Playing a game of peek a boo. ready?
not quite...
sort of
almost
PEEK A BOO!
Oh yeah the whole time we were there she kept roaring. That's what she is doing in this picture. :p
She also made 4 new friends that she followed around as they played hide and seek.
After the aquarium we took a drive through Sandy. Nona and Grumpy showed us where they use to live. (the house James was born at) And where Grumpy grew up. then we headed over to Cowboy grub on foothill.
Avery loved the food
But wasn't a fan of the entertainment. :p they had this cute little room that had a train, the carousel above and this old coin operated horse. But instead of having to pay 25 Cents. They had them wired to light switched on the wall. Avery enjoyed patting the carousel horses as they passed. but wanted nothing to do with that wild bucking bronco. :)
All in all a great birthday. And at the end....a very tired birthday girl
