Back to School

 Unfortunately with the move, me starting work again at nights and lack of funds and time. This hasn't been the most fun of summers for the kiddos. But we have been able to get a lot of time in at the pool which is always good. Avery has been going through some growing up changes which has been....a learning experience. 

We have been school shopping for both kids and they are all ready with new clothes, shoes, backpacks and more. We have attended the schools open houses for both kids and were able to meet all the teachers. Avery is in 6th grade and is going to Intermediate school (which is pretty much like middle school) where she has 7 classes. Kilian is now in 1st grade and is going back to Hurricane Elementary. He has Mrs. Bennion and  his dual immersion Spanish teacher Mrs. Quispe(?). These next couple of weeks are probably going to be a little rough until everyone gets back into a routine. But overall I have hopes that these kiddos are going to have a great school year and learn lots. 

COVID

 Well thought I should document this horrific event. Monday July 24th I noticed I wasn't feeling very well at work. My throat was sore and I felt a bit off. Honestly I didn't think anything of it. Then Tuesday came and I really started not feeling well. My body was achy, throat hurt and I felt very fatigued. Then I got COLD like chills running through my body and I was shaking and my teeth were chattering. My sweet kiddos piled a bunch of blankets on me while I lay in bed and Kilian even said "I'm your little heater mommy I'll warm you up." SUPER cute but nothing was helping. Then as fast as the chills came I was hot and throwing off some of the blankets. James took my temperature and sure enough I had a 102 fever. Tuesday night was absolutely miserable. I kept getting super cold or super hot, my body hurt so bad so I couldn't get comfortable. I couldn't sleep and my fever kept going up. At one point I checked my fever and it was 104. Honestly I probably should have gone to the hospital but I didn't want to and didn't want to wake James. I was able to get through the night and got my fever down to 102 but I think I only got a couple hours of sleep. Wednesday I took a covid test and sure enough it was positive. Next came having to tell people. I messaged work and told them I was positive and asked what the procedure was now. Rusti (my supervisor) said that I had to be quarantined for 5 days and then wear a mask for 5 days. She said she would take me off the schedule and get my shifts filled. Then I had I emailed my professor because I had a quiz and test coming up. She was so great too. She told me not to worry and let her know when I was up and moving and she would open the quiz up for me to take and focus on getting better. Then I had to let the RS president know that I wasn't going to be able to help out with the family history fireside. Everybody was so wonderful and helpful. and honestly the next few days were a total blur. A lot of medicine, water and Gatorade, a lot of time in bed either sleeping or trying to sleep. It was horrible. James ended up getting it too and then Kilian. But Kilian had it for like a day and a half and then his fever went away and he was back to his ol' self. James and I it hit harder than that. But I am back to work, feeling better. Just have an occasional cough and I get fatigued super easy. But on the mend and ready to put this all behind me. :)

4th of July

 I worked all night 10PM to 7AM but when I got home I took the kids to the parade, They had a lot of fun waving at the people and running for candy. Close to the end of the parade a tractor pulling a trailer came by representing a local nursery that was giving out plants. All the grown ups ran to the street like the kids looking for candy. A couple of  Avery's friends were helping hand out plants and Avery ended up getting 4 plants just by herself, by the time the tractor was gone we had 6 or 7 plants between the 3 of us. Fortunately we were able to get rid of a lot of them. After the parade I was able to go home and get some sleep. Unfortunately we weren't able to do anything else. 

Camping Trip Day 2

 None of us slept very well so when the sun started to come up we were all a little reluctant to wake up. Kilian (of course) was the first one up and out of the tent. So I got up and got him  and I some cereal for breakfast then got the fire started up again. I knew it wasn't going to stay cold for long, but it was nice to have the fire up and going. After awhile Avery got up and was ready for her cereal too.

The campsite next to us had this really neat rock formation with some holes in it. The people that were camping there had left rather early and we were sure when they were going to get back. So we took the opportunity to explore those holes. Most of them were just small but there was one that made a nice little cubby for the kids to climb into. We were even able to get Cowboy up there with them.

After that the kids wanted to start hiking all over. So it was time to get out of jammies and into some cooler clothes. First we hiked up the rock by our campsite. Both Kilian and Cowboy were freaking me out with how close they were getting to the edge. So I suggested we go hike the trail that was up from us. We were told that this trail has some swimming holes at the end of the hike and if there was enough water running, it also made a natural water slide. We were definitely interested to see that and with the sun getting higher and higher and the day getting hotter and hotter. I knew our time was going to be limited.

We grabbed some water and headed up the road to the trail head. There was already quite a lot of people hiking this trail already. It was a beautiful hike with lots of fun photo opportunities that the kids definitely took advantage of. The further we hiked the prettier it got, but also the hotter it got. we reached a sort or rocky outcrop/cave where we rested in the shade. We learned from the other hikers that it was still a ways to go and it was more open too, so less shade. It was already well past 80 degrees and we were getting low on our water. So I convinced the kids (who were already pretty hot themselves) that this was a good place to turn back. I am REALLY glad we did too. By the time we got back to camp our water was gone and it was getting closer to 90.

We rested at camp in the shade to cool off and played a card game that Avery got for Christmas called Kids Against Maturity. It was a lot of fun and had Kilian crying with laughter. Eventually though everyone was starting to get a little sun sick and with temperatures getting up into the 100's. We decided it was a good idea to spend some time out of the hot sun and go back home for a bit to take a nap in a nice air conditioned home. On our way out of the campsite we noticed that the old pioneer house was actually open. So we stopped to have a look. It was actually so fascinating, I really enjoyed it and I'm glad we stopped.

After a cold shower to cool off and a much needed nap for all, it was time to head back to our campsite for dinner. We were going to stay that night. But I wasn't able to get my shift for work covered and needed to be at work at 3AM. We thought it would be best to just pack up and head home after dinner so I could get more sleep and some decent sleep before work. But it was still fun to head back to camp for another round of roasted hot dogs and s'mores. It was so much fun camping and spending time together as a family. Seriously we enjoyed it so much that we are trying to figure out when we can go camping again very soon. Just at a higher altitude where it wont get so hot in the day. :)
